Interesting Myrtlewood Facts
The Myrtlewood tree is a broadleaf evergreen with dark green, smooth leaves. The tree is symmetrical in form with olive-like fruit or nuts. The nut of the tree is not edible by humans, but serves as food for squirrels and blue jays. The waxy leaf of the tree is used as a substitute for bay leaves. The small clusters of waxy white flowers are sweet and perfume the air. Myrtlewood trees can grow to 80 feet tall, and the trunk can reach six feet in diameter. The Myrtlewood tree is found in a small portion of Southwestern Oregon along the Pacific Coast.
